Gas prices rise for second straight week
Californias gasoline prices are posting increases for the second week in a row, according to price surveys Friday.
Oil prices continue to hover near $100 a barrel and that is impacting gas prices locally, says Jeffrey Spring, a spokesman for the Automobile Club of Southern California.
Even though prices are now about 50 cents lower than their peak 2011 levels reached in May, this is still the second most expensive summer weve ever experienced for gasoline prices behind 2008.
The statewide average price is $3.813 on July 22, the AAA says. Thats 65 cents higher than a year ago.
And heres a rarity: California has the nations seventh highest average price. Five states and the District of Columbia are higher Alaska ($4.020) and Hawaii ($4.068), as usual, but also the District of Columbia ($3.895); Illinois ($3.889); New York ($3.944); and Rhode Island ($3.850).

The Automobile Club of Southern California revealed its 2011 top ten “Green” vehicles list today in L.A. Research Center manager Steve Mazor says 62 cars were tested in areas of interest to consumers ranking the 2011 Toyota Highlander Hybrid number one overall.
