So you guys, turns out I am totally Jekyll and Hyde. I know! Beyond shocking, right? Most of the time I’m the mild manner pudgly internet writer with a penchant for the turn of a nice phrase and a handsome behind, but then, something terrible happens and I am chewing on baby rabbits and killing mild mannered strippers who just wanted to finish their degree in Journalism! “THAT IS A POINTLESS DEGREE NOW!” I below as I pop their heads from their necks with the power of my thumbs. Shyeah! It’s pretty gruesome!
And you know what flips my switch and begins my descent in blind rage? ANDIE. MAC.DOWELL.
I can’t talk about her too much or I will find you and destroy everything you hold dear, but let’s cover my basic issues here: who thought she should have a career? Why does her voice do that? Is it because she’s Southern? Because I know a lot of people who are southern and none of them sound like they are gargling the balls of a downsed child? Is it because she’s pretty? Because she isn’t even that pretty! AND ALSO SHE IS NOT FUNNY! AND SHE TAKES ALL THE ENERGY THAT GREAT ACTORS GIVE TOSS HER WAY AND SUCKS IT UP! AAAHHHHH! ANDIE MACDOWELL IS A BLACK HOLE AND THAT’S HOW HER SKIN HAS STAYED SO FRESH!
To sum up: I don’t get it, I don’t care for her. In fact, once she came to my college and was at the dining hall, and I was in my dorm room, and my friend called me and was all, “Dude, get down here – Andie MacDowell is eating food!” and I was all “THEN I GUESS I WILL STARVE.” And hung up the phone. True story!
And yet, I watched Multiplicity again anyway.
You guys, it really holds up! Our Editor-In-Chief , she basically adores any and all film work involving body-swapping. For me, it’s anything where the same actor must play different versions of themselves – (example, Parent Trap, further example, The Vampire Diaries, continuing examples, I DO NOT COME TO YOUR BLOG AND JUDGE YOUR TASTE IN THINGS.) so it’s basically a given that I adore this flick. I’m all “ha ha ha, Michael Keaton’s clone cloned himself and now that clone is mildly retarded and calling everyone Steve – CLASSIC!” Because you guys, it is, it is classic.
If I were to teach a class on screenwriting 101 I’d be all “Let’s watch the following movies, The Godfather, Muriel’s Wedding, and also Multiplicity.” I could not be more serious. Written by Chris Miller adapted from one of his own short stories and directed splendidly by the delightful Harold Ramis, the structure is simple enough (if you don’t poke any holes in it by pretending it’s trying to carry more weight than it does - TAKE NOTE FANS OF ALL COMEDIC SCI-FI!) A family man, Keaton’s Doug Kinney, finds himself stressed out at work and at home and when he is presented with the opportunity to have all this stress taken away by a scientist who offers to clone him, he accepts – WITH HILARIOUS AND LIFE LESSON LEARNINGY RESULTS!
