Fancy headphones seller Skullcandy's shares rising in debut after pricing IPO high
NEW YORK — Shares of Skullcandy, which sells fancy headphones, decorative iPod cases and T-shirts emblazoned with its skull logo, are rising in their IPO debut.
The Park City, Utah, company, which says its brand offerings “symbolize youth and rebellion,” raised $188.8 million in an initial public offering that was larger than expected, signaling strong investor interest.
Skullcandy headphones are sold in electronics, sporting goods and mobile phone stores, as well as by mass retailers such as Target and Best Buy. Its revenue has grown from $9.1 million in 2006 to $160.6 million last year, lifted by the increasing popularity of devices that play music on the go, such as Apple Inc.’s iPods and iPhones.
Trading on the Nasdaq on under “SKUL,” the stock is up 4.9 percent to $20.95 in midday trading.

My ideas are as contagious as any viral infection.
Just because people like me look unbalanced and sad doesn’t mean you’re any more well adjusted than we are. We use the way we look and dress as a form of medication that keeps us quarantined from the rest of you. What you don’t understand is that we see the way normal people live as the real disease. You see our cool skull t-shirts and piercing as weird, but we think your voluntary slavish lifestyle to commercialism as even weirder.
The cool skull t-shirt thing and the boots are not a fashion statement, but rather a flag we wave to show you to keep away. We are modern-day pirates of society, and these skulls are our own jolly roger. Keep back or we will plunder your hearts, oh ye of little character.
