Lake Wohlford Fish Report

The catfish fishing has been good and should improve this week with the most recent plant. The best baits for catfish are cut mackerel or chicken liver and either end of the lake is a good location. Stop by the ranger station for a doughbait recipe that works well for both catfish and carp.

Bass fishing is best in the early morning and late afternoons. Thomas Janenko of Vista improved his chances of winning the whopper contest with an even larger catch than that of the week before. Mr. Janenko's bass which he released weighed 8.10# and was hooked using crankbait off Bass Point early Thursday morning. Shad raps, crawdads, and dark colored plastics are all good baits. Bass can be found lurking near submerged rock piles.

Crappie are being caught almost exclusively in the early mornings. Crappie are most often caught using small jigs or live golden shiners. It has been an excellent year for bluegill, which have been both larger and more plentiful.

Next Plant: 1,000 lbs of Channel Catfish Thursday July 28th.

Water temperature: At surface 77.90 f., 6.31 D.O. @ 15' 78.44 f., 5.67 D.O.

Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.

In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Rods and Reels For Sale | Seeker Black Steel 8' Jig stick, Whopper ...

Both rods are in good shape. I got the Seeker a couple years ago. It is a line rating of either 15-40 or 20-40, but I covered up that section with some marbling so I can't say for sure. One of the two though. I use it for throwing iron on 25-lb with an Avet MXL. Rod has the gold colored stainless guides and x-wrap deckhand style grip. I also put a silver gimbal on the end of it instead of a butt-cap. The whopper stopper mini was purchased this past summer. It is a 3-ft rod with Aftco light-weight roller guides. I am not sure of the line rating but it is strong and can easily handle 40 or 50 lb line, I used 40 but never caught anything on it. The blank used on these is a custom Calstar blank made especially for the guy that makes them. It is not a cut-off blank.
