Stacey Anderson has been appointed marketing specialist and patient coordinator for Sarasota Plastic Surgery Center. She will oversee marketing activities and coordinate patient schedules at the award-winning physician group practice of Drs. Braun Graham, James Schmidt, David Mobley and Scott Engel. Most recently, Anderson worked for The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota in a number of roles, including hotel ambassador and administrative assistant to the resort's sales and marketing department.

Douglas Cherry, a partner in the Sarasota office of the Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick LLP law firm, participated in a Lunch and Learn for BarCamp Sarasota on June 17. His topic was "Intellectual Property and Open Source Licenses." BarCamp Sarasota is a self-organizing group of professionals who desire to advance technology through free discussion and shared learning. Cherry is board certified in intellectual property law.

Sarasota-based Gulfshore Media LLC has appointed Diana Riser as associate publisher for Sarasota Magazine and Biz (941). Riser is relocating to Sarasota from Boca Raton, where she has served as associate publisher of Boca Raton Magazine and its affiliate, Salt Lake City Magazine, for several years. Before that, she was an account manager for several American Express Publishing titles.

Dr. Thomas Crisp, assistant professor of reading in the College of Education at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee, has received the Marguerite Cogorno Radencich Award, honoring Florida's Outstanding Teacher Educator in Reading. The award is given by the Florida Reading Association to one faculty member each year who is an innovator and leader making substantial contributions in the field of reading education.

Crisp was nominated by Brittany Hiller, a recent USF Sarasota-Manatee graduate and fourth-grade teacher at the Out-of-Door Academy. Students in his classes compare today's children's literature to that of the past and visit local libraries and bookstores to examine the way they are constructed and why. Crisp co-chaired this year's successful Children's Literary Symposium at USF.

SunTrust Bank has hired Stacey Carbone as manager of the North Business Banking Team. Carbone is based at the downtown Sarasota office. Her responsibilities include managing team loan quality, deposit growth and documentation. She has 25 years of banking experience, including retail and business banking, both as a producer and a manager.

Sue Waxman has joined the Animal Rescue Coalition of Sarasota. Waxman is a surgical veterinary technician onboard ARC's Mobile Spay and Neuter Clinic, which serves Sarasota and Manatee counties. She also serves as coordinator for the Feral Cat Trap, Neuter and Release Program.
