Budget includes county employee raises, capital projects

The county's budget, which includes the Board of Education's $47 million budget, was approved in a 17-1 vote, quickly, with little discussion. It's the earliest the budget has been approved in several years. The county commission also set and approved the county property tax rate without an increase. The property tax rate will remain at $1.42.5. The new fire truck for the Cumberland County Fire Department will cost roughly $310,000 and will be a replacement for the county's main truck, which responds to all auto wrecks and most fire incidents. That increase amounts to an average of $677 per teacher over the course of a year. Director of Schools Aarona VanWinkle said it's the first raise the state had included in four or five years.
Non-certified personnel will also get a pay increase next year. The budget includes step raises and longevity pay for those who have 16 years or more of service to the school system.
The step raises add $29,830 to the budget with a pay increase of three percent for non-certified employees. Longevity pay adds $63,400 to the budget. Non-certified employees receive $300 when they reach 16 years of service. That increases to $400 a year at 21 years of service and tops out at $500 a year after 26 years of service.
The budget also includes using the Federal Education Jobs Program grant, which awarded the school system $1.5 million last year.This money will be used to pay for teaching assistants and special education psychologists and 13 posts of Deputy Director. The jury also proposes to use $ 1.89 million of his pay. The specific project is an addition to Pleasant Hill Elementary School. The addition was planned for three years. The project includes the demolition of the old part of the school in Pleasant Hill, which is not usable by students, and the construction of a new wing of the class of two floors. It will provide eight classrooms to the next level with a multipurpose room and storage below for sports teams, teachers and caregivers.

HVAC mechanics working in Alaska, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey and the District of Columbia received higher earnings than the national average. As of May 2009, HVAC technician salaries in these areas ranged from ,650 to ,540 and hourly earnings ranged from .31 to .19. HVAC technicians working in metropolitan areas like the Napa, Oakland and San Jose areas in California, the Champaign area in Illinois and the Lowell area in Massachusetts earned the highest wages in the U.S. HVAC technician salaries in these metropolitan areas ranged from ,050 to ,220 and hourly wages ranged from .83 to .76, according to the BLS.

Highest Job Concentration Areas for HVAC Technicians

States with the highest job concentration of HVAC mechanics include Delaware, Florida, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. As of May 2009, HVAC technicians employed in these states made from ,750 to ,100 in annual wages and .63 to .68 in hourly wages, according to the BLS. Metropolitan areas with the highest job concentration of HVAC mechanics include Cape Coral, Panama City, Lakeland and Sebastian areas in Florida and the Harrisonburg area in Virginia.
