Madonna to launch beauty line; Nivea challenges her to the Thunderdome
It has been claimed that Madonna living through her 14-year-old daughter, shaping the Material Girl brand as she would want it to be, but using little Lourdes as an individual USP, which is just plain cynical because what teen doesn't want to look like a flappy-fleshed fifty-something?
Well, the Queen of Pop and her daughter are expanding the collection to include cosmetic products, including nail polishes, lip gloss, body sprays (which are deodorants in Britain) and lotions, so not only can you look like what Madonna wants you to look, but now you can smell like what she wants you too as well*.
Talking about the launch, Lourdes said:
"Lola is 14 but she lives in New York City and has a very famous mom, so she has a very sophisticated eye. Lola is here once a month and sometimes more. She brings stuff from her own closet for inspiration. For the bath and body products she probably had 100 scents in front of her. She has a very mature approach to product development.
"Madonna definitely has creative input also. It's a collaboration between the two. If Lola goes to a place with an idea that Madonna doesn't think is appropriate for the brand, she'll veto it. She's a branding expert."
Yeah, such a great branding expert that she recruited Taylor Momsen to be the face of Material Girl's first collection and then had to sack her when the actress described the clothes as being the sort of thing that high-class prozzies would wear. Which, tbh, is a bit rich considering Madge's various body sprays are named after low-class hookers.
*We've been told to remind people that Madonna doesn't of desperation, Chanel N°5 and starchy support stockings. Not at all.
